Description

Church of Östra Frölunda

There has been a church on the site where Östra Frölunda Church stands today since the Middle Ages. The church is one of four churches in Kindaholm parish.

About the church

Östra Frölunda's church is located on the western bank of the river Ätrans. The site has been home to a church since the Middle Ages. The new church was built in 1826 by master builder Per Eriksson, the old church having been demolished the year before.

The old church had an altarpiece and pulpit made by Sven Nilsson Morin. These were taken to the new church. Johannes Andersson, the "Mjöbäck carver", who was an apprentice at the time, reworked the works. The medallions on the pulpit depict Gustav Vasa and Martin Luther.

The ceiling painting in the choir was created by Einar Forseth when the church was renovated in 1930.

The church was last renovated in 2005.
