Description
Klockebo Mill – by the Legendary Troll Stream
Klockebo Mill is an atmospheric reminder of the small-scale life and work that once shaped the Småland countryside during the 19th century. Grain was milled here for more than a hundred years, and the mill played an important role in everyday life in the local community. The last miller was Johannes Magnusson, who let the millstones turn for the final time in 1927.
The mill is powered by water flowing from Lake Stora Askaken towards Lake Norra Bolsjön. The stream supplying the mill is known as a troll stream – an unusual natural phenomenon where the water flows northward. In Swedish folklore, north-flowing water was believed to possess special powers. It was said to protect against misfortune and was sometimes used in healing and magical rituals. Since much of Sweden’s landscape slopes gently southward, streams flowing north are relatively rare, which has contributed to their mysterious reputation.
