Kalv Church

Church on the shore of Lake Kalv

There has been a church in Kalv since 1671. Originally a wooden church, it was replaced in the 19th century and after a fire in 1896, construction began on the current church. The church is beautifully located right next to Lake Kalv.

About the church

Kalv church is built in neo-Gothic style and was consecrated in 1900 after the previous 19th century church had burned down four years earlier. This in turn had replaced a wooden church from 1671. The new church in Kalv was designed by Carl Crispin, son of the famous church architect Adrian Crispin Peterson.

In the new church you will find the heritage of the previous ones. The 13th century baptismal font and the 17th century wooden sculptures are preserved. These adorn the south wall. At the back of the church there is also a work by Eva Spångberg, depicting the angel Gabriel and Mary.

The church has been renovated on several different occasions. The most recent was in 2002, when the church was modernized to suit 21st century worship and parish life.
