Description
A Living Mill Environment from the 17th Century
Beautifully situated in the Småland countryside lies Släthults Mill – a charming watermill with origins dating back to the 17th century. The mill is first mentioned in written records in 1560, when King Gustav Vasa ordered an inventory of farm production, most likely for taxation purposes. This place carries a long history of craftsmanship, daily life, and work connected to the flowing water.
A Mill Still in Use Today
Släthults Mill is open to visitors all year round, and on selected occasions flour is still ground here just as it was in the past. Visiting during one of these days gives you the chance to experience the historic environment in operation and see how the mill is still used today.
Tables and chairs are available by the mill, making it a perfect spot for a picnic in beautiful surroundings. On certain days, Villstad Heritage Association also serves freshly made waffles at the mill. Keep an eye on Villstad Heritage Association’s Facebook page for current events and activities.
Combine Your Visit with Släthultsboden
The mill is located close to Släthultsboden, and a visit here can easily be combined with a stop at the farm shop. Here you will find local products and an authentic Småland countryside atmosphere.
Släthultsboden also arranges popular horse-and-carriage rides between the farm and the mill throughout the year – a cosy and nature-filled experience for both children and adults.
