Rosendals Cottage – Cultural Heritage from 18th Century Småland

On a small hill stands Rosendals Cottage, surrounded by hay meadows and enclosed by a traditional Småland wooden fence known as a hankgärdsgård.

The cottage is a beautiful retirement cottage dating back to the late 18th century. A retirement cottage was a smaller dwelling on the farm where the older generation lived after handing over the farm to their children – a way of securing old age while remaining close to family life. It offers a glimpse into rural life and family structures of the past.

Today, Rosendals Cottage no longer stands in its original location. In the 1950s, it was moved from Klockebol and carefully rebuilt here. During the relocation, parts of the house were renovated, including the rebuilding of the fireplace and the construction of the large white chimney – a feature that still gives the cottage its characteristic silhouette.

The cottage is open all year round, and visitors are welcome to step inside and experience the atmosphere up close. On site, you can also read more about the cottage’s history and its journey through time.
