Description

The River Nissan flows through four nature reserves and showcases Småland at its very best.

In the northern part of the trail, the river passes through several forest lakes where you can experience the feeling of stepping ashore on a deserted island and exploring magical wilderness surroundings. The southern section of the canoe trail has a more winding course, with many strongly meandering stretches.

You can start and finish wherever you like along the canoe trail. Enjoy a relaxing day trip or set out on a longer adventure by paddling the entire route, which is almost 90 km long.

Stages – Canoe Trail Nissan

Öreryd – Isaberg (2–4 hours)

During this stage, you experience both river paddling and beautiful forest lakes. The route is calm and family-friendly.

Multi-Day Canoe Adventures

If you would like to paddle a longer route with several overnight stays, we recommend starting in Öreryd or Isaberg and paddling down to Skeppshult, which takes approximately 4–5 days.

Along the canoe trail, you will pass several cosy campsites with shelters where you can stay overnight.

Campsites with Shelters

Along the River Nissan, there are six campsites with overnight facilities: Algustorpasjön, Bäckshult, Båraryd, Rönnegården, Ågård, and Skeppshult.

Each campsite offers:

  • Shelter
  • Firewood storage
  • Barbecue area
  • Rubbish bin
  • Toilet

To use the campsites along the trail, you need a canoe permit. Canoe permits can be purchased at selected sales points along the River Nissan. The permit should be placed in the mailbox upon arrival at the campsite. More information is available at the sales locations.

Canoe Rental

If you do not have your own canoe, you can rent one from Isaberg Mountain Resort, Hestra Guesthouse, or Hörsjöns Camping in Smålandsstenar.

You can pick up the canoe and equipment at one location and return them at your final destination. The rental providers also offer canoe transport to and from the starting point or destination, giving you the freedom to choose the route that suits you best.
